It’s the start of a new era on Tyneside as Steve Bruce takes charge of his first match as Newcastle United manager, welcoming Unai Emery’s Arsenal to St James’s Park.

Both sides have invested over the summer – but have also lost key players from last season.

Arsenal are looking to regain a spot in the Champions League, while Newcastle will be looking to prove the pundits who predicted them for relegation this season wrong.

The match kicks off at 2pm and it’s live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League. Here are the factz you need to know:

* This fixture ended 0-0 last season. Arsenal took a 2-0 win at The Emirates Stadium.
* Newcastle have an awful record against Arsenal; they’ve won just 1 of the last 16 matches against them and drawn only 3.
* Newcastle had decent form towards the end of last season – winning 4 and drawing 2 of their last 10 PL matches.
* Arsenal’s last 10 matches were the same as Newcastle’s – 4 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats as they missed out on Champions League qualification.
* Reiss Nelson is back for Arsenal. He made 23 appearances and scored 7 goals on Lon for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga last season.

Arsenal considering January bid for Argentina star Cristian Pavon

Champions League chasing Arsenal are looking to make a bid for Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavon in January, according to reports.

The Sun said that the Gunners have already contacted Boca about a deal for Pavon and could pay up to £40 million for him.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is said to be a fan of the 22-year-old who has broken through into the Argentina side in the past year and make 11 appearances in all.

Pavon is a player who could fit into Emery’s system and his pace would be a major asset. However, he has been plagued by hamstring problems recently.

The Sun add that Pavon’s agents have been in contact with other clubs in Europe as Boca seem braced to see one of their stars leave.

Premier league strugglers Fulham are also thought to be interested, but their valuation falls far short of what Boca are looking for.

Arsenal to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno

Unai Emery is wasting no time in overhauling his Arsenal squad, as he looks to set to bring in Bayer Leverkusen’s German international goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £22 million deal.

Leno had been expected to sign for Napoli – Leverkusen admitted he had an agreement with the Serie A side – but it seems that Arsenal have stolen in ahead to sign him, according to German newspaper SportBild.

Arsenal are now hammering out the personal terms of the deal with the 26-year-old, and it is hoped the deal will be concluded before the weekend.

Should Leno join, he will compete with 36-year-old Petr Cech for the number one spot, and it is thought that current back-up stopper David Ospina will be sold.

Leno is highly-rated in Germany – despite missing out on the country’s 23 for the World Cup – and has made 304 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, and kept more than 100 clean sheets.

More transfers are expected at Arsenal in the coming weeks as Emery seeks to build the squad in his own image. Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is also close to joining the club, according to reports.

Arsenal look to sign Nice star Jean-Michael Seri

Arsenal look to set to make a bid for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, following the appointment of Unai Emery as manager.

Emery is a fan of Seri – having tried unsuccessfully to sign him for Paris St-Germain in January – and could rekindle his interest again.

Seri has a release clause of £35 million in his Nice contract, and is the subject of interest from several major European teams after a stellar season for the club. Teams rumoured to be interested in him include Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

Emery is expected to be busy in the transfer market – even if he is rumoured to only £50 million to spend – as he sets out to make the Gunners title contenders once more.

Midfield is one area that is set for strengthening, as Santi Cazorla has left the club, and Aaron Ramsey’s future is also uncertain.

But Arsenal – like Chelsea – can only offer Europa League football next season, which could put them at a disadvantage if Seri wants to play in the Champions League.
