Italian side Roma want to continue their transfer spree by signing Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on loan.

Roma have already signed nine players this summer including Davide Zappacosta from Chelsea and Chris Smalling from Manchester United on loan.

Sky Sports has reported that Armenian international Mkhitaryan is in Rome to finalise the deal. It is believed Roma will pay a loan fee as well as his wages, but do not have an option to buy at the end of the season.

Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in January 2018 from Manchester United as part of the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the other direction.

During his time at the Emirates, he has made 59 appearances and scored 9 goals.

The loan deal suits all parties. Roma were in the lookout for an attacking midfielder, while Mkhitaryan was likely to have a limited amount of playing time this season. It also means some of Arsenal’s young players, such as Reiss Nelson, will have more of a chance.

Roma set to buy Liverpool star in £23 million deal

Serie A challengers Roma are set to land Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren in a £23 million deal.

Reports in Italy say that Lovren is open to the move, having fallen down the pecking order at Anfield. The Croatia international is yet to feature this season, and is behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in boss Jurgen Klopp’s thinking.

Calciomercato has said that Roma are negotiating a deal that would see Lovren move for an initial £15 million, but that could rise to £23 million with add-ons.

Boss Paulo Fonseca is looking for defensive reinforcements as the side look to topple Juventus from their perch as champions.

Lovren joined Liverpool for £20 million from Southampton in 2014 and has made 170 appearances for the Reds. However, he appeared just 18 times last year.

Klopp wouldn’t be drawn on Lovren’s future earlier this week. When asked about his omission from the squad for the European Super Cup, the German said Lovren was ill.

Roma set to offer Alexis Sanchez a way out of Manchester United nightmare

Italian side Roma are considering taking Manchester United misfit Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan, according to reports.

United are apparently keen on the deal and are prepared to pay a portion of Sanchez’s wage to ensure the deal goes through, The Sun has reported.

Sanchez has endured an unhappy time since moving to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January 2018. Injuries and a loss of form have hampered him, and there have been rumours of attitude problems.

He failed to spark when Olé Gunnar Solskjaer took over as United boss – despite being given chances – and now appears to not be in the plans for the first team. Solskjaer seems happy to go with a youthful front line and give chances to 17-year-old prospect Mason Greenwood.

Roma want a deal, and with Solskjaer wanting Sanchez out of the way, it appears a deal could go through before the Italian transfer window closes on September 2.

Champions League last 16 draw announced – Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United all face tough ties

The draw for the Champions League round of 16 has been made and all four remaining English clubs face tough tests if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool will face German giants Bayern Munich, with the first tie at Anfield. While the Bundesliga champions have struggled this season – by their standards – they performances in Europe have been good and will provide a stern test.

Manchester City also have German opposition in the form of Schalke. As the seeded side, they will travel to Gelsenkirchen for the first leg, before the return at the Etihad Stadium. This might appear fairly straightforward for Pep Guardiola’s men as Schalke are struggling in the Bundesliga, currently in 13th place with 15 points from 15 games.

Making it a hat-trick of Anglo-German ties, Spurs face Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund. The sides last met in the Europa league in the 2015/16 season, where Dortmund ran out 5-1 winners on aggregate.

Manchester United have arguably the toughest looking tie on paper, having drawn French champions Paris St-Germain. PSG are running away with the Ligue 1 title again currently, having opened up a 10-point gap to their rivals already, winning 14 of their 16 matches and drawing the others. However, the Qatari-backed side did lose to Liverpool in the group stage.

In the complicated draw sides from the same country couldn’t be picked to face each other. Group winners play the away in the first leg.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Real Madrid face Dutch champions Ajax. Meanwhile Barcelona have French opposition in the form of Lyon.

The draw in full:

Schalke v Manchester City

Atletico Madrid v Juventus

Manchester United v Paris St-Germain

Tottenham v Borussia Dortmund

Lyon v Barcelona

Roma v Porto

Ajax v Real Madrid

Liverpool v Bayern Munich

First leg ties will take place on 12-13 and 19-20 February, with the return fixtures on 5-6 and 12-13 March.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur set to battle it out to sign Romanian star Dennis Man

Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are considering bidding for FCSB and Romania attacking midfielder Dennis Man.

Man has caught the eye this season for FCSB – the club formerly known as Steaua Bucharest – scoring 7 goals in 22 appearances. The 20-year-old has also broken into the Romanian national side this year, making his debut in March.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino sent a scout to watch Man, who can play attacking midfield or on the right wing, recently, according to The Sun.

Continental European clubs are also said to be interested, with Italian side Roma and Turkish giants Fenerbahce said to be keen – although it has been denied that the latter has already tabled a £2.5 million bid for the player.

It is thought that it will take a substantially higher bid than that to get FCSB to part with one of their rising stars. Man is contracted to FCSB until 2022 but if a bid in the range of £15-20 million came in, they may be tempted to sell.
