Manchester United plot summer moves for Declan Rice and Kalidou Koulibaly

Struggling Manchester United are planning to make big-money bids next summer for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.

United’s squad is in transition and it is widely believed the club will go on a spending spree next summer to try and close the gap to the Champions League places, according to a report on Goal.com. After a poor start – by their standards – to the Premier League, with 9 points from 8 games, it is thought the club will spend big in January and summer 2020.

The Red Devils have been linked with Rice and Koulibaly several times in the past year, although they have never got as far as making a formal bid for either player.

Rice is seen as the ideal man for the defensive midfielder position – current squad members Fred and Nemanja Matic have both been underwhelming this season. However, West Ham will drive a hard bargain if they are to be tempted into parting with one of their star players. It is thought West Ham’s owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, will want up to £80 million for the England international.

Meanwhile Koulibaly has become one of the highest rated central defenders in Europe for his performances for Napoli in Serie A and the Champions League in recent seasons. He is viewed as the man to go alongside Harry Maguire in the centre of defence. Again, a hard bargain would be driven for his signature and it could take up to £100 million to secure him. United would also doubtless face heavy competition from other European club giants such as Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as rivals Manchester City.

Italian giants Juventus and Napoli are set for a battle to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s our-of-favour right-back Kieran Trippier.

The Daily Mirror has reported that new Juve boss Maurizio Sarri has identified Trippier as one of his first signings for the perennial Serie A champions. It is thought he was impressed by him when he was boss of Chelsea.

Napoli have previously been reported to be interested in the 28-year-old and are thought to have already opened talks with the player and his representatives.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has indicated he would be prepared to sell Trippier for the right price – thought to be about £28 million – as he has cover at the position. French international Serge Aurier and promising home-grown player Kyle Walker-Peters are both vying for the right-back position.

Trippier could be tempted by a move to Italy. Both sides are in next season’s Champions League, although an extra pull to Juventus could be the presence of former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona target world record deal for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly

Top European clubs Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all planning a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer – but have been told it will take a world record fee to sign him.

Senegal international Koulibaly has earned a reputation as one of the world’s best centre-backs in the past few years with a string of impressive performances in Serie A, The Champions League and in international matches.

Manchester United have been linked with the 27-year-old in the past – although they have been linked to most other defenders in Europe – but Koulibaly would be seen as an upgrade on the current defensive options at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are planning a major squad revamp this summer and  signing Koulibaly would be a statement of intent.

Barcelona have also been linked and will want to make signings to keep up their advantage over Madrid.

Chelsea have also been linked to the defender but they have been placed under a transfer ban for the next two transfer windows for transfer irregularities, which would seem to rule them out. However, the club are appealing that ruling.

However, any club that wants to sign Koulibaly will have to break the world record for a defender. Napoli president Auerelio de Laurentiis wants £130 million for him, according to the Gazetta dello Sport.

That would smash the current record £75 million that Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

De Laurentiis may get his wish as all three clubs could meet that sort of fee.

Liverpool have £61.3 million bid for Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne rejected – reports

Premier League title chasers Liverpool have had a €70 million (£61.3 million) bid for Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne rejected, according to reports in Italy.

Liverpool have been rumoured to be interested in signing Insigne before, but now they have firmed that interest up with a bid with a view to a summer transfer, according to La Repubblica in Italy.

Napoli are currently 2nd in Serie A, and Insigne has had a major role in the side’s success this season. The Italian international has played 19 matches and scored 8 goals, with a further 5 assists.

La Repubblica added that the bid was made through agent Mino Raiola to Insigne’s father, rather than directly to Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Nevertheless, De Laurentiis has said no to that offer, saying that the player is worth €150 million (£131.6 million).

While Insigne has a contract with Napoli that runs until 2022 and, at 27 years of age, is at the peak of his career, De Laurentiis can justifiably ask for top dollar for his start striker. However, Liverpool would likely refuse to pay that much for the player – only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have commanded higher transfer fees than the amount De Laurentiis quoted.

However, the amount quoted could just be a tactic to put clubs off trying to buy Insigne.

Whether Liverpool will come back with an improved bid remains to be seen.

Real Madrid set to battle Manchester United to sign Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly

Spanish giants Real Madrid are planning to make a £90 million bid for Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports in Italy.

Napoli defender Koulibaly has become one of Europe’s most wanted players thanks to a series of commanding performances in Serie A.

He has been the subject of interest from United for some months and Napoli are said to have already turned down a world record bid from them.

But the Neapolitan side are said to be willing to accept a £90 million bid for Koulibaly from Madrid this month, according to Italian news outlet Il Mattino.

Madrid have struggled in La Liga this season after the departures of manager Zinedine Zidane and star player Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. They currently sit 5th in La Liga, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona.

They see Koulibaly as an ideal signing to sure up their back line and appease fans who want big signings in order to get back to the top of La Liga.

But this may yet spur United into action. While Koulibaly was a target of former United manager Jose Mourinho, interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been promised money to spend this month, and a centre back is a priority.
