Manchester United and Manchester City are both keeping tabs on Benfica’s highly-rates 20-year-old Florentino Luis with a view to making a bid next summer, according to reports.

Defensive midfielder Luis has impressed at the Portuguese side and is on the radar of many top clubs. For instance, Paris St-Germain had an advance rebuffed in the summer.

The Daily Star reports that City considered making a £55 million bid last summer but decided against it. Pep Guardiola’s scouts are keeping tabs on him however.

Meanwhile A Bola has reported that United scouts were watching Luis at Benfica’s recent victory over Braga.

However, should United or City – or both – make a move, they will likely have to meet or beat the release clause in Luis’ contract of £91 million.

That wouldn’t be a problem for either side, of course.

If Luis continues to develop as expected, then watch this space come summer 2020.

Bayern Munich to relaunch pursuit of Manchester City star Leroy Sane in January

Perennial German champions Bayern Munich are preparing to launch another bid to sign Manchester City forward Leroy Sane in January, despite the player being out with a long-term injury.

The Sun says that Bayern are not put off by the fact that Sane is set to be out until Spring 2020 with a cruciate ligament injury, suffering in the Community Shield match against Liverpool in August.

Bayern tried to sign Sane in the summer, but their bid of £70 million was rebuffed. After Sane was injured, the Bavarian side signed Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic on loan.

City were asking £145 million for the German international at the time, which Bayern balked at. However, they will be hoping that, in light of Sane’s injury and that his contract is running down, City will drop their asking price.

But the indications are that City don’t want to do a deal and would rather hold onto the player. They haven’t given up hope of him signing a new deal to stay at the Etihad.

That said, City boss Pep Guardiola has said that Sane is free to leave if he wants to – although he’d rather that he stays.
