Premier League strugglers Everton are considering making a bid for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele in January, according to reports.

Everton, currently 18th in the table with just 7 points from 8 matches, are looking to bolster their forward line and believe that the 23-year-old could be the answer.

Manchester United have already been linked with a £40 million move for Dembele and it is thought the Toffees would match that.

Dembele has scored 20 goals in 37 appearances for Lyon since his £19.7 million move from Celtic last year. He also has experience in the Premier League having played for Fulham.

Everton splashed out some £25 million for Juventus striker Moise Kean in the summer but he has yet to find his feet in England. While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been scoring, he has little back-up.

Manchester United also have problems up front. After selling Romelu Lukaku and sending Alexis Sanchez out on loan to Inter Milan in the summer, the Red Devils are light up front. This has been exacerbated by Anthony Martial’s injury and Marcus Rashford’s indifferent form.

Lyon will want to hold onto one of their stars and the lure of Champions League football – something neither Everton nor Manchester United can offer – may be enough to keep him in France.

Lyon’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, seems resigned to losing him. He confirmed that the player wants to leave and that big clubs in Europe are after him.

Ndombele has developed a reputation as one of the best young defensive midfielders in Europe, starring for Lyon as they finished third in Ligue Un and breaking into the France squad.

Lyon want £70 million for the 22-year-old but Spurs believe they can get him for closer to £60 million.

Should Ndombele join Spurs, it could see Victor Wanyama depart as he maybe seen as surplus to requirements.

Champions League winners Liverpool are looking to resurrect a move for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, according to reports.

Fekir to Liverpool was one of the enduring stories of last summer’s transfer window. After weeks of rumours, Lyon finally pulled the plug on a £53 million deal.

However, after another impressive season – Fekir scored 12 and provided 9 assists in all competitions – Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is renewing his interest in signing the player.

Klopp is looking to strengthen his squad as he looks to de-throne Manchester City as Premier League Champions next season. Midfield has been identified as an area that needs more depth.

However, Liverpool do not want to pay £53 million for him. They may not have to either, as it is believed Lyon will listen to lower offers. A friendly between the sides this summer may also help to sweeten a deal. French outlet Le Progress has claimed a deal is close.

Champions League runners-up Tottenham Hotspur are planning to strengthen their side and have already had bids rejected for Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso and Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, according to reports.

Spurs haven’t signed a player for 18 months, but boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to change that this summer. The Argentine has said that he wants the club to show that they match his ambition and are prepared to make heavy investment in the squad if they are to keep progressing.

He has also hinted that he could walk away from Spurs if they don’t show the necessary commitment.

But, with the money from their Champions League run, a place in next season’s competition and increased revenues from their new stadium, Spurs can now invest in the playing staff.

Betis playmaker Lo Celso has earned rave reviews in Spain and could be seen as a replacement should Christian Eriksen leave.

Meanwhile Ndombele is the sort of defensive midfielder that Spurs need.

The Daily Mirror reported that Spurs have bod for both, and seen those bids rejected. Both would likely cost £35 million plus, which shows the level Spurs are working at.

It is expected they will make further bids during the summer.  However, they will likely face competition from other Premier League clubs as well was top clubs in continental Europe for the signature of both players.

The draw for the Champions League round of 16 has been made and all four remaining English clubs face tough tests if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool will face German giants Bayern Munich, with the first tie at Anfield. While the Bundesliga champions have struggled this season – by their standards – they performances in Europe have been good and will provide a stern test.

Manchester City also have German opposition in the form of Schalke. As the seeded side, they will travel to Gelsenkirchen for the first leg, before the return at the Etihad Stadium. This might appear fairly straightforward for Pep Guardiola’s men as Schalke are struggling in the Bundesliga, currently in 13th place with 15 points from 15 games.

Making it a hat-trick of Anglo-German ties, Spurs face Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund. The sides last met in the Europa league in the 2015/16 season, where Dortmund ran out 5-1 winners on aggregate.

Manchester United have arguably the toughest looking tie on paper, having drawn French champions Paris St-Germain. PSG are running away with the Ligue 1 title again currently, having opened up a 10-point gap to their rivals already, winning 14 of their 16 matches and drawing the others. However, the Qatari-backed side did lose to Liverpool in the group stage.

In the complicated draw sides from the same country couldn’t be picked to face each other. Group winners play the away in the first leg.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Real Madrid face Dutch champions Ajax. Meanwhile Barcelona have French opposition in the form of Lyon.

The draw in full:

Schalke v Manchester City

Atletico Madrid v Juventus

Manchester United v Paris St-Germain

Tottenham v Borussia Dortmund

Lyon v Barcelona

Roma v Porto

Ajax v Real Madrid

Liverpool v Bayern Munich

First leg ties will take place on 12-13 and 19-20 February, with the return fixtures on 5-6 and 12-13 March.
