Barcelona in potential shock move for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata

Spanish giants could make a move to sign out-of-favour Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata in January, according to reports in Spain.

Barca are in the market for a striker because they want cover for Luis Suarez who has an ongoing knee problem, and usual back-up Munir has failed to fire this season.

It has been claimed Morata’s agent has been in contact with Barca about a potential move for the player, according to Spanish outlet RAC-1. This could take the form on an initial loan with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Morata has struggled for form this season – continuing his struggles from the latter part of 2017/18 – and in recent weeks has found himself on the bench as Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has preferred Olivier Giroud or even Eden Hazard in the central striker position.

The Spanish international wants first-team football, so may well be tempted to head for the exit at Stamford Bridge. While some Barcelona fans may not welcome him due to his having played for rivals Real Madrid in the past, it is not unknown for players to turn out for both sides.
