Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are both trying to sign Paris St-Germain forward Neymar this summer and could offer player-plus-cash deals.

Neymar has long been reported to be unhappy with life at PSG. On the pitch he has had success, winning successive Ligue Un titles, but his time there has been plagued with injury. They have also not won the Champions League – or even come close.

Now, it has been reported by Sport in Spain that Neymar has told PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he wants to leave the club and return to Spain.

This adds fuel to existing rumours of Neymar’s return to Spain.

Barcelona have been linked with a £90 million plus ab unnamed player bid to try and tempt PSG into selling.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are also said to be plotting something similar. Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Real are preparing a £115.5 million bid as well as offering Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez as part of the deal.

However, they have already signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea for £88 million so whether they pursue a deal remains to be seen.

What also remains to be seen is whether PSG want to sell. They may not want to keep and unhappy player but in that case would certainly want to recoup their £198 million outlay on him. Whether they would take a player-plus-cash deal is also open to discussion – as indeed is whether the players reportedly involved would want to go.

Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are considering making a bid for Columbian playmaker James Rodríguez after he decided not to extend his loan stay at Bayern Munich.

Rodríguez has spent the past two seasons in Munich having struggled to impressive at Real Madrid. While his time in Bavaria has been successful – Bayern won the Bundesliga in both seasons and he scored 15 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 matches in all competitions – he has decided  not to join permanently.

It is thought that Rodríguez will not be part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans at Real Madrid, so a move is likely.

There will be no shortage of clubs interested in the 27-year-old. In the Premier League, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all thought to be interested. Meanwhile Italian champions Juventus and French title holders Paris St-Germain are also considering making a bid.

Bayern had the option to sign Rodríguez for £37 million as part of the loan deal, but Real are likely to want more for a straight transfer – possibly north of £50 million.

Arsenal target bargain James Rodriguez deal as they look to offload Mesut Ozil

Arsenal are looking at signing Columbian international James Rodriguez on loan this month, as they also try to ship out Mesut Ozil.

Rodriguez is in the final 6 months of a 2-year loan deal at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid. However, the playmaker is out of favour at the German side and The Daily Mail claims that they would be willing to let him go, if Arsenal stumped up the £3 million to which Real would be entitled under the loan deal terms.

When Rodriguez joined Bayern, it cost the Bavarian side £11.5 million, with an option to sign him permanently for £39.5 million at the end of the 2 years. However, boss Niko Kovac hasn’t started him regularly this season.

This has put him on Arsenal’s radar and, with boss Unai Emery stating that the club can only do loan deals this month, this is about the best deal they could hope for.

But if Rodriguez comes in, it makes the departure of Mesut Ozil more likely. The German has fallen out of favour under Emery and didn’t even make the match day squad for the game against West Ham United last weekend.

However, potential suitors for Ozil would likely balk at his £350,000 per week wages.
Instead, a loan deal looks more likely, with the Gunners still paying a portion of his wages. Inter Milan have been rumoured to be interested in a deal.

Bayern Munich sign Manchester United and Chelsea target James Rodriguez on two-year loan

German champions Bayern Munich have signed Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez on a two-year loan deal.

This news will come as a blow to Manchester United, who had been reportedly in talks to sign Rodriguez. Chelsea were also said to be keen to sign the Columbian international.

In addition to the loan agreement, Bayern will have the option to sign Rodriguez permanently after the two years is up.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bayern’s official website: “We’re delighted we’ve been able to complete this transfer. Signing Rodriguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish, following their successful spell working together in Madrid.

“James is a very versatile player. He’s a goalscorer himself, he sets up a lot of goals and on top of that he’s great from set-pieces. There’s no question that this transfer further increases the quality in our team.”

Chelsea interest in signing James Rodriguez cools over Real Madrid price tag

Premier League champions Chelsea’s interest in Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez appears to be cooling after they baulked at the Spanish club’s valuation of him.

Madrid have put a £70 million price on Rodriguez and it is thought that Chelsea are unwilling to pay that much for him, given that he is only a fringe player at the Bernabeau.

Rodriguez has failed to nail down a starting spot at Madrid since his £63 million move from Monaco in 2014, and seems to have fallen out of favour under Zinedine Zidane –he didn’t even make the bench for the Champions League final.

It seems that Madrid may have to lower their valuation if they are to offload Rodriguez and reinvest in the squad.
