Liverpool make world record £62 million bid for Roma goalkeeper Alisson

Liverpool have offered Italian side Roma £62 million for Alisson – which would be a world record fee for a goalkeeper.

Roma are reported to be considering the bid, but want a fee closer to £66 million, according to reports.

Alisson played for Brazil at the World Cup in Russia – ahead of Ederson, who plays for Manchester City – and acquitted himself well, keeping three clean sheets. The 25-year-old put in a string of impressive performances for Roma in Serie A and the Champions League last season as well.

Liverpool have been long rumoured to have had an interest in Alisson, but this is the first time they have made a formal offer. The number one position at Anfield has been subject for question for some time, but especially after current keeper Loris Karius made two high-profile errors in the Champions League final, although he was later found to be suffering from concussion at the time.

The current world record fee for a goalkeeper is the £35 million City paid for Ederson last summer – although Gianluigi Buffon’s transfer to Juventus in 2001 was for a reported euro53 million – but at the time it was worth £32.6 million.

Manchester United could sell David de Gea to Real Madrid – but only if they sign replacement first

Manchester United could finally sell goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid this summer, but only if they manage to sign Jan Oblak to replace him.

de Gea has been a target for Real for several years, and came close to signing him in 2015. Since then United have resisted all attempts from Real. Zinedine Zidane had been happy with current number one Keylor Navas, but since his departure it is thought the Real hierarchy favour signing a new keeper as they seek to refresh the squad.

But there are signs that United may finally let him go of Real come in for him again, according to Spanish news site Dario Gol. It is thought de Gea is keen to return to Madrid, having come through the ranks at Atletico.

And it is to Atletico that United are looking for his potential replacement. Slovenian Oblak has established himself as one of the top keepers in the world in recent seasons, keeping the most clean sheets in La Liga for the past 3 seasons.

He has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital – Liverpool has been a mooted destination – although Atletico are keen to keep hold of him.

It is thought United would only sell de Gea if they have already signed his replacement.

Both keepers would doubtless command a world record fee for a goalkeeper. The current record is the £35 million Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson last summer. It is likely both would warrant fees north of £50 million.
