The six players on the shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year Award have been announced.

Manchester City players make up half the list, with Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane nominated. Elsewhere, leading scorers, Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Tottenham’s Harry Kane are nominated, as well as one who stops the goals, Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea.

Kane and Sane are also on the shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

Also nominated for that are Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and winger Raheem Sterling, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford and Fulham left-back/winger Ryan Sessegnon.

Sessegnon becomes the first player to be nominated from the second tier since 1983.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House on April 22.

Liverpool and Inter Milan could move for Manchester City ace in January

Liverpool and Inter Milan are keeping tabs on David Silva’s contract talks with Manchester City, and could make a move for the playmaker if they don’t progress.

Silva currently has a contract that runs to the summer of 2019, and City boss Pep Guardiola wants him to extend that deal by 12 months.

But Silva has plenty of admirers, who could be willing to offer a longer, more lucrative deal, according to The Sun. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is known to be an admirer of Silva, as is Inter’s Luciano Spalletti, so both could come in if progress isn’t made on contract talks.

However, it is highly doubtful that Guardiola would countenance the sale of the Premier League’s leading assist maker, especially to a domestic rival.

File this one under ‘not going to happen’.
