A host of top European clubs are eyeing up a £110 million deal for 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, according to reports.

Havertz has seen his stock rise dramatically since he broke into the Leverkusen first team in 2017. He scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga last term and has started this season impressively too. He has also broken into the German National side.

German newspaper Bild has reported that seven clubs are competing for his signature, including four from England: Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested.

Bayern even tested the water in the summer with a £75 million bid but were turned down.

It is thought Leverkusen want £110 million for their man, which wouldn’t be out of the range of any of the aforementioned clubs – barring Chelsea who are currently serving a transfer ban.

It is thought Havertz wants to stay at Leverkusen until the summer as he wants to cement a place in Joachim Louw’s squad for Euro2020.

However, the player hasn’t committed his future beyond that and is on record as saying he is confident that he could play for clubs outside of Germany.

Some clubs may try and tempt Havertz and Leverkusen with a deal in January as his value may increase again if he is successful at Euro2020.

Arsenal to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno

Unai Emery is wasting no time in overhauling his Arsenal squad, as he looks to set to bring in Bayer Leverkusen’s German international goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £22 million deal.

Leno had been expected to sign for Napoli – Leverkusen admitted he had an agreement with the Serie A side – but it seems that Arsenal have stolen in ahead to sign him, according to German newspaper SportBild.

Arsenal are now hammering out the personal terms of the deal with the 26-year-old, and it is hoped the deal will be concluded before the weekend.

Should Leno join, he will compete with 36-year-old Petr Cech for the number one spot, and it is thought that current back-up stopper David Ospina will be sold.

Leno is highly-rated in Germany – despite missing out on the country’s 23 for the World Cup – and has made 304 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, and kept more than 100 clean sheets.

More transfers are expected at Arsenal in the coming weeks as Emery seeks to build the squad in his own image. Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is also close to joining the club, according to reports.
