A host of clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris St-Germain are monitoring Anthony Martial’s situation at Manchester United with talk that he is frustrated and could push for a move away this summer.

France international Martial is reported unhappy with the amount of game time he is getting at United. He has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s side this season, and with the signing of Alexis Sanchez in January, his opportunities have been more limited.

Despite this, the 22-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions this season.

Should Martial push for a move, then a host of clubs would be interested in signing him. From the Premier League, Tottenham and Chelsea would likely be interested – both sides need a striker this summer. Continental clubs are also reportedly interested, including Juventus and Paris St-Germain.

Martial has a year left on his United contract, and the club have an option of another year. However, given the depth of United’s squad – and rumours Mourinho is looking to bring another forward in – the club could look to cash in. The deal to bring Martial to Old Trafford from Monaco was for an initial £38 million, with add-ins that could see it rise to £54 million, and United would look to at least recoup their investment and probably make a profit.

However, given Martial is still only 22 and has potential to improve, then clubs will likely be willing to pay.

Jose Mourinho will have offload Manchester United players before he can buy in January

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will have to sell players before he can buy any more in January.

United’s board want to get more control over costs, according to a BBC report. The club’s wage bill was £263.5 million – up 13.5% – according to their last accounts, and Mourinho has spent £285 million on 6 major signings since he joined as manager in 2016.

This means that some players will now be looking nervously at the door marked ‘exit’. Left-back Luke Shaw is likely to be one of those – he was signed for £27 million in 2014 but is out of favour under Mourinho having struggled with injury and form. Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone may be another – he has impressed on his season-long loan at Aston Villa and the club are keen to sign him permanently.

Juan Mata and Antony Martial have also been in and out of the side this season and could be jettisoned if there is a player Mourinho really wants to sign.

Marouane Fellaini is out of contract at the end of the season, so Mourinho could be tempted to sell him in January rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer, but he is also an integral member of the squad and could be offered a new deal.

However, with United already eight points behind neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League title race, Mourinho may be ready to dip into the transfer market to try and close the gap.
