Crystal Palace have rejected a £40 million bid for their star right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to reports.

Wan-Bissaka enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Eagles in 2018/19, making the right-back spot his own and making 39 appearances in all competitions. He has also been a regular in the England under-21 squad.

United have long been thought to have an interest in Wan-Bissaka. They are in the market for a right-back to replace the ageing Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia.

However, United’s bid falls well short of what the Eagles want for their star, who is contracted to the club until 2022. Sky Sports News says that Palace bosses are holding out for £60 million for him.

Whether United come in with a higher bid – or if Palace will lowers their demands – remains to be seen.

Other potential options for United include Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier, who is seemingly out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino. He could be available for transfer, although other clubs would no doubt be interested.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka a top transfer target, but faces having to pay £50 million to get his man.

Wan-Bissaka earned rave reviews for Palace last season, playing in 35 of their 38 Premier League matches. Despite finishing 12th, the Eagles conceded fewer goals than Manchester United.

Right-back is a position Solskjaer knows he needs to strength, with Antonio Valencia having left the club, Matteo Darmian expected to follow out of the exit door and Ashley Young past his best. Also, at 21, Wan-Bissaka is the sort of young player who can improve that Solskjaer wants to sign.

Palace don’t want to sell one of their stars, but will do so if the price is right. Currently they are holding out for £50 million. Whether United – or any other side – will pay that remains to be seen.

United have been linked with the England under-21 international for some time so they may pay to get their man.

Meanwhile United are still in talks with Swansea City over a potential deal for winger Daniel James. However, it is believed a fee has not yet been agreed.

Manchester United are planning to strengthen their defence in the summer and Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is at the top of that list.

United’s central defensive problems have been well documented recently, but right-back is also a concern. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are both 33 – and the latter is expected to leave in the summer – while youngster Diogo Dalot has not made the impact hoped for this season.

Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed an impressive season with the Eagles, making the right-back slot his own and helping them to keep 9 clean sheets this season. He is now regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in Europe.

However, Palace boss Roy Hodgson will not let the 21-year-old go cheaply. It is though Wan-Bissaka is valued at £40 million.

United will likely have competition for his signature too. Arsenal are thought to be interested, although any bid will depend on the size of the transfer kitty Unai Emery is given in the summer. Manchester City May also be interested.
