Serie A challengers Roma are set to land Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren in a £23 million deal.
Reports in Italy say that Lovren is open to the move, having fallen down the pecking order at Anfield. The Croatia international is yet to feature this season, and is behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in boss Jurgen Klopp’s thinking.
Calciomercato has said that Roma are negotiating a deal that would see Lovren move for an initial £15 million, but that could rise to £23 million with add-ons.
Boss Paulo Fonseca is looking for defensive reinforcements as the side look to topple Juventus from their perch as champions.
Lovren joined Liverpool for £20 million from Southampton in 2014 and has made 170 appearances for the Reds. However, he appeared just 18 times last year.
Klopp wouldn’t be drawn on Lovren’s future earlier this week. When asked about his omission from the squad for the European Super Cup, the German said Lovren was ill.
