European giants Real Madrid and Juventus could be set to go head-to-head to sign Chelsea midfield lynchpin N’Golo Kante, according to reports.
Kante, who scored in Chelsea’s 1-4 win at Southampton yesterday [October 6], has established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in the world in recent seasons. He has won the Premier League title with Leicester City and Chelsea.
Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly interested as they see him as an upgrade on current starter Casemiro, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail adds that bidding for 28-year-old Kante could start at £70 million.
Kante was reportedly unhappy being played out of position last season under Maurizio Sarri. However, since Frank Lampard has taken over he has been restored to his favoured defensive position.
The French international could be tempted by a move to Champions League challengers such as Juventus and Real Madrid, where several of his countrymen play.
However, whether Chelsea would be willing to sell is another matter. Jorginho plays in the same position but the club are under a transfer ban and presumably would be loathe to let more players go.
