Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane is the man Real Madrid fans want to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, a poll has revealed.
Ronaldo left Madrid after 9 years at the club earlier this month, moving to Italian champions Juventus for £105 million.
Now in a poll of nearly 200,000 people by Spanish newspaper Marca, Kane came out on top of the list of players they would most like to replace Ronaldo.
Kane received 26% of the votes, ahead of Paris St-Germain striker Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan, who both received 14%.
Perhaps surprisingly, Cavani’s PSG teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe weren’t among the favourites. Another rumoured Real target, Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard, also didn’t feature in the poll.
Kane’s stock was high after scoring 30 Premier League goals last season, but it rose further as he ended up winning the Golden Boot at the World Cup, scoring 6 goals.
Madrid were reportedly interested in Kane earlier in the summer, but the speculation looked to have been put to bed when he signed a bumper new long-term contract with Spurs. He also has the incentive of playing at the club’s new stadium this coming season.
Whether this poll will reignite Real’s interest remains to be seen, but it would take a world record bid for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to even consider selling.
Real are still looking for a marquee signing to replace Ronaldo, with Neymar, Hazard and others all likely targets.
