Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho is set for a sensational move back to his former club Liverpool, according to reports.
Brazilian star Coutinho left Anfield for Barcelona in January 2018 for £142 million after a protracted transfer battle. However, his time in the Catalan capital has not been a happy one, with injuries and a loss of form ensuring he hasn’t made the impact that was hoped for.
Now, with Antoine Griezmann joining Barca from Atletico Madrid, Coutinho could be pushed further down the pecking order.
However, former club Liverpool could offer him a way out of his Camp Nou nightmare. Italian news site Calciomercato have reported that the Reds have put together an offer of a two-year loan deal, with an option to buy for £88 million.
Calciomercato also report that Coutinho is keen on this deal. His agent, Kia Joorabchan, has previously hinted that his charge would find it difficult to play for another Premier League club.
This would appear to be a blow to Manchester United, who have also been linked with the player in recent weeks.
Yet Coutinho could get stay at Barcelona. Joorabchan also said that Barca bosses have no intention of selling him and have not spoken to any parties about this.
Make of that what you will. Coutinho might be on his way out of Barcelona. Or not. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
