Yes, you have read this right – its not an old news story from 1991 – Manchester United are targeting Kasper Schmeichel as a potential replacement for David de Gea.
It is widely thought that de Gea will make a return to his home country with Real Madrid in the summer – after nearly joining them two years ago – and Leicester City stopper Kasper is the number one choice to replace him, according to Sky Sports News.
The 30-year-old Dane, son of Manchester United legend Peter, has impressed in recent seasons at Leicester, which including winning the Premier League title in 2016.
There is also said to be interest in Kasper from Manchester City – where he started his career – and from Real Madrid, should de Gea decide not to join them.
Whether Schmeichel Junior could resist a move to either Manchester club is not known, but with the promise of European competition – albeit possibly the Europa League – they would both be a strong pull.
