Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign £50 million-rated Napoli midfielder Jorginho – who has also been a target for Liverpool – according to reports.
Italian international Jorginho, who has been instrumental in Napoli’s challenge for the Serie A title this season, is apparently keen to work with City manager Pep Guardiola. His wish is apparently close to being fulfilled, according to Spanish outlet Goal.
Guardiola is thought to be keen to strengthen his midfield this summer, with David Silva, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure all the wrong side of 30. Jorginho would fit into the Spaniard’s style of play, performing a similar role to that of Sergi Busquets at Barcelona.
If this deal is completed, it would be a blow for Liverpool, who are also in the market for a defensive midfielder to complement their wealth of attacking resources.
