Title-chasers Liverpool are plotting an £85 million bid for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele in January, according to reports.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to boost his forward line and sees the 21-year-old France international as the man to do that, a report in The Sun has said.
Dembele endured a frustrating first season at the Camp Nou after his £135 million move from Borussia Dortmund in summer 2017. A serious injury kept him out for months and he struggled to regain his best form after that. But this season has been better, and the forward has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists so far.
However, there have been issues with discipline. Dembele was dropped from the Barca squad last weekend by boss Ernesto Valverde after missing training due to a “stomach bug”. There have also been issues with the player turning up late to training with France.
But Klopp has a long-standing interest in Dembele, having first publicly declared his interest last May, and he fits the profile of the sort of forward he looks for.
While Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have formed a terrific front 3 for Liverpool, Klopp wants to add more depth to his attacking line. Danny Sturridge has played well when called upon but is prone to injuries and Dominic Solanke is largely untried.
