Perennial Serie A champions Juventus are plotting to sign Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer next summer, according to reports.

Dane Eriksen, 27, has been the subject of much transfer speculation this summer as he has one year left on his Spurs contract and does not appear willing to sign a new deal.

While the English transfer window closed last week, it remains open in Europe for several weeks, so Eriksen could leave the club in the next few weeks. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Juventus are all thought to be interested in a deal.

However, if Eriksen stays put in London at the end of this window, then Juve could play the long game and wait until he is out of contract and then sign him for nothing in June 2020. Eriksen could sign a pre-contract agreement from January.

This is a tried-and-tested tactic from the Turin-based side. In recent years they have signed Liverpool’s Emre Can, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and PSG’s Adrien Rabiot for nothing after their contracts expired.

But Spurs will be doing everything in their power to get Eriksen to stay. It has been reported they are offering him a £200,000 a week deal. His importance to Spurs was demonstrated at the weekend; they were 0-1 down to Aston Villa until Eriksen was introduced as a substitute, inspiring the team to score 3 in the final 15 minutes of the match.
