Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has signed a new contract with the Spanish side worth a reported £600,000 per week – £350,000 after tax – which will make him the highest paid player in the world.
The deal, which runs until 2022, is set to net the Welshman £150 million over that time. Bale’s deal, which includes a £900 million buyout clause, is more than the reputed £288,000 a week Cristiano Ronaldo earns, although he is also in contract talks with Los Blancos, and it is likely he will also be given a large raise too.
Bale, who joined Madrid in 2013 for a then-world record fee of £85 million, has scored 50 goals in 90 league appearances. Since joining, he has helped Real lift five trophies, including the Champions League in 2014 and 2016.
