Everton are targeting a move for Atletico Madrid – and former Chelsea striker – Diego Costa, according to reports.
Costa was a cult hero at Stamford Bridge – as much for his antics on the pitch as his goal scoring – but left two years ago to return to Atletico in Spain.
However, it has been reported that he is open to moving again and would consider a return to the Premier League.
Atletico have signed Joao Felix and made Alvaro Morata’s move from Chelsea permanent this summer, so they could be willing to let Costa leave.
Signing Costa would end Everton’s long quest to sign a number 9 – they have never properly replaced Romelu Lukaku who left for Manchester United two summers ago in a £75 million deal.
However, he wouldn’t come cheap – Everton would be looking at spending £45 million on the Spaniard. However, this is within their compass and would be a statement of intent for the upcoming season.
