Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has handed in a transfer request, following two bids for him from Premier League champions Chelsea.
Chelsea have had both bids rejected by the Foxes, but are understood to be preparing another bid. Drinkwater’s move would seem to strengthen their hand.
However, Leicester’s management have been adamant that they don’t want to sell the player, who was an instrumental part in the side’s Premier League title win in 2015/16.
Chelsea view Drinkwater as a direct replacement for Nemanja Matic, who joined Manchester United in the summer. A move would also reunite him with N’Golo Kante, with whom he had a successful partnership at Leicester.
It is thought Chelsea will come back with a £40 million bid for Drinkwater, which may be enough to tempt Leicester, although with the transfer window shutting tomorrow, time is running out.
