Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are monitoring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation with a view to making a bid for him.
Aubameyang has been a stand-out for a misfiring Gunners side this season, scoring 9 goals already. Since he joined the club in January 2017, the Gabon international has scored 50 goals in 78 appearances in all competitions.
However, Aubameyang’s contract is up in the summer of 2021 and he has indicated that he might leave this summer if Arsenal don’t qualify for the Champions League – they are currently 8 points behind Chelsea in the 4th and final place after 13 matches.
Aubameyang has also refused to commit to the club and sign a new contract.
The Daily Star has reported that both Spanish giants are monitoring the situation and could make a bid for the 30-year-old and could make a bid in January or the summer.
Barcelona are known to be seeking a new striker to replace the ageing and increasingly injury-prone Luis Suarez. Meanwhile Real are still in the midst of a squad rebuild under Zinedine Zidane.
Both would welcome someone with a proven record of goalscoring in England and Germany over several seasons.
Aubameyang has been linked with a move to China but it is believed he would prefer to stay in Europe if he were to move.
Arsenal wouldn’t want to lose one of their stars but much will depend on the coming months. Manager Unai Emery is under pressure and could be sacked if results don’t improve quickly. Whether a new man could turn the Gunners’ season around – or convince Aubameyang to stay – would remain to be seen.
