Spanish giants are plotting a late move for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as they seek to solve their forward crisis.
Barca need cover for the injured Luis Suarez and have made Aubameyang their top target, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.
Aubameyang, 30, has been in sparkling form in a stuttering Gunners side this season. He has netted 14 goals in 22 Premier League matches this season and has 57 goals in 91 appearances in all competitions in his stint at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are waiting for Barcelona to make a formal approach for the Gabon international before deciding on what they may do.
While Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has said he wants to keep Aubameyang until at least the end of the season, if Barca make a good offer they could be tempted to sell. The form of younger Gabriel Martinelli might also have a bearing.
Little progress has been made in convincing Aubameyang to sign a contract extension and it is thought likely that if Arsenal don’t qualify for the Champions League – they are 10 points off 4th place currently – he will leave in the summer.
However, Barca will not pay over the odds for a 30-year-old with less than 18 months remaining on his contract. It has been suggested they would refuse to pay £50 million.
Barca also have a back-up plan in the form of Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno.
The transfer window shuts on Friday.
