Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 50th hat-trick of his career as Real Madrid ran out 6-3 winners against Girona in La Liga.

Ronaldo bagged 4 goals as Los Blancos hammered Girona to move up to third place.

The Portuguese maestro has now scored 21 goals in his last 11 appearances, and has got on the scoresheet of each of his last 8 matches.

Those goals also mean he is now joint top scorer in the top 5 European leagues alongside Mohamed Salah with 35.

In all, he has scored 44 hat-tricks for Real Madrid – a record. In addition he has scored 5 for Portugal and, perhaps surprisingly, just one while he was at Manchester United.

Question is, how many more can he score before he hangs up his boots?

Pedro’s winner in the first half of extra time against Leicester City has set Chelsea up with a semi-final tie against Southampton.

Capitalising on an error from Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel, Pedro’s goal was enough to see off a battling Leicester side when it had seemed that the tie was destined for penalties.

Chelsea will meet Southampton, who beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 earlier in the day, at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of 21-22 April.

In the other semi final, Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur. United were drawn as the ‘home’ team so will have the home dressing room at Wembley, leaving Spurs – currently playing at Wembley as they await the completion of their new stadium – as the ‘away’ side.

Mohamed Salah as influential as Messi and Maradona – Klopp

Mohamed Salah is becoming as influential for Liverpool as players such as Lionel Messi is for Barcelona and Diego Maradona was for Napoli, according to Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

Salah scored 4 goals against Watford yesterday, taking his goal tally for the Premier League season to 28 and 36 in all competitions – making him the top scorer in the top 5 European leagues, ahead of the likes of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane.

Speaking after the match, Klopp was fulsome in his praise for the Egyptian forward, saying he was “on his way” to being mentioned in the same breath as Messi. Although he added that Salah himself probably wouldn’t want to be compared to the Argentinian great as he is focused on his own game.

“The last player I know who had the same influence on a team performance was Diego Maradona,” Klopp added.

Salah has had a profound effect on the side since he joined in the summer, and has had a hand in more than half of the goals Liverpool have scored in the PL – he has 9 assists to go with his 28 goals.

“As it is always in life, if you have to have the skills you have to show that constantly and consistently, and he is very good,” Klopp added.

Liverpool set for summer battle with Real Madrid for Alisson signature

Liverpool are facing a battle this summer with Spanish giants Real Madrid to sign Roma’s Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson.

The Reds are known to be targeting a new goalkeeper this summer, with neither Loris Karius or Simon Migniolet convincing boss Juergen Klopp that they should be number one.

However, Real Madrid are also in the market for a new stopper. With Manchester United resolute in their refusal to sell David de Gea, Los Blancos are searching for alternatives, and 25-year-old Alisson would fit the bill. The Brazilian has put in a string of impressive performances this season, including helping Roma to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Alisson himself has said that interest from Real makes him “happy”, although that doesn’t necessarily mean he would prefer a move to the Bernabeau.

But it would take a world record deal to prise him away from Roma. He has been rated at £70 million – the current record is the £34.7 million Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson last year. But in today’s inflated market it is possible a club would be prepared to pay that much.

Should a deal for Alisson not materialise, Klopp is also said to be interested in Bauer Leverkusen stopper Bernd Leno, who has also caught the eye and would be substantially cheaper, at about £20 million.
