Arsenal want to sign defender Joachim Anderson and midfielder Dennis Praet from Sampdoria – but will have to pay nearly £50 million for them.
The Gunners have offered £43 million for the pair, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. However, that has been rebuffed, with Sampdoria bosses wanting £49 million to do business.
Danish international Anderson is wanted by Gunners boss Unai Emery to tighten up his defence – they conceded 51 league goals last season.
Meanwhile Belgian Praet could provide more creativity in midfield – something needed after Aaron Ramsey departed on a free for Juventus. The 25-year-old has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time too.
The Gunners will hope they can get a deal done – the difference in valuations is not insurmountable.
However, the deal would take up all of what Emery’s transfer kitty is rumoured to be this season. After the club’s failure to make the Champions League next season, a budget of £45 million has been set aside for new players – unless Emery can raise funds through sales.
