Arsenal want to tie up loan deals for Barcelona stars Denis Suarez and Malcom before the transfer window shuts later this week.
The Gunners only have enough budget to make loan moves this month, manager Unai Emery has said. This could have changed if the club could have offloaded Mesut Ozil, but there haven’t been any takers – for a permanent or loan deal – with clubs put off by his £350,000-per week wages.
Winger Suarez has been on Emery’s radar for most of the month. The 25-year-old Spaniard is a peripheral player for Barcelona and boss Ernesto Valverde would let him move out on loan to get regular game time. Talks with Arsenal over a deal are ongoing, with a positive conclusion hoped for soon.
Meanwhile, during those talks, the Gunners have also enquired about taking Brazilian forward Malcom on loan to the Emirates Stadium as well.
Malcom moved to Barcelona from Bordeaux for £37.5 million last summer but has not been a hit at the Camp Nou this season. So far, he has made just 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals. However, the Barcelona hierarchy still rate the 21-year-old highly and don’t want to let him leave permanently but would be open to letting him go out on loan to play more often.
Other clubs are thought to be interested in signing Malcom, including AC Milan and other clubs in Spain.
A move for both to Arsenal would seem to be a win-win; both players would likely be playing more often and it would provide more competition for places for Emery, who has yet to really put his stamp on the Gunners squad.
