Arsenal seek double Barcelona loan move for Denis Suarez and Malcom

Arsenal want to tie up loan deals for Barcelona stars Denis Suarez and Malcom before the transfer window shuts later this week.

The Gunners only have enough budget to make loan moves this month, manager Unai Emery has said. This could have changed if the club could have offloaded Mesut Ozil, but there haven’t been any takers – for a permanent or loan deal – with clubs put off by his £350,000-per week wages.

Winger Suarez has been on Emery’s radar for most of the month. The 25-year-old Spaniard is a peripheral player for Barcelona and boss Ernesto Valverde would let him move out on loan to get regular game time. Talks with Arsenal over a deal are ongoing, with a positive conclusion hoped for soon.

Meanwhile, during those talks, the Gunners have also enquired about taking Brazilian forward Malcom on loan to the Emirates Stadium as well.

Malcom moved to Barcelona from Bordeaux for £37.5 million last summer but has not been a hit at the Camp Nou this season. So far, he has made just 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals. However, the Barcelona hierarchy still rate the 21-year-old highly and don’t want to let him leave permanently but would be open to letting him go out on loan to play more often.

Other clubs are thought to be interested in signing Malcom, including AC Milan and other clubs in Spain.

A move for both to Arsenal would seem to be a win-win; both players would likely be playing more often and it would provide more competition for places for Emery, who has yet to really put his stamp on the Gunners squad.

Tottenham Hotspur plan £20 million move for PSG’s Adrien Rabiot

Tottenham Hotspur look set to finally enter the transfer market with a £20 million bid to sign Paris St-Germain’s want-away midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Spurs famously signed no one last summer and have so far done no business this month. However, with Mousa Dembele leaving for China, it seems that manager Mauricio Pochettino has decided to act.

The Sun has said that Rabiot is the target and could be signed for as little as £20 million.

Rabiot is running his contract down with PSG and has said he has no intention of signing another deal. Since then, he has been banished from the first team by manager Thomas Tuchel. He currently trains with the under-23 squad.

However, PSG won’t sell unless they can find a replacement, according to The Sun. One of the potential replacements is Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, although earlier in the week the Merseyside club said they hadn’t received an approach from PSG.

Barcelona have already made Rabiot a pre-contract offed to join them in the summer but nothing has been signed. The Catalan club also agreed to sign Frenkie de Jong from Ajax this week.

The Sun reports that Spurs have already made contact with Rabiot to sound him out over a deal.

PSG could accept £20 million for Rabiot, rather than let him leave for nothing in the summer.

Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy has indicated he could loosen the purse strings to make the bargain signing.

Barcelona target Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata for summer transfer

Spanish giants Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Juan Mata’s contract negotiations and may swoop if he doesn’t agree a deal with Manchester United, according to reports.

Mata’s contract with United expires at the end of June, and Barcelona have met with his representatives this month to sound him out about a potential move, Goal reports.

United are still in talks with the 30-year-old about a new deal and are hopeful that he will sign.

However, with interest from Barca – as well as other clubs such as Paris St-Germain (inevitably) – Mata could have his head turned.

Mata has made 208 appearances for United since joining in 2014, scoring 44 goals. However, he hasn’t been a regular starter this season – only 9 of his 15 appearances have been from kick-off – and could be tempted by a move where he would get more minutes on the pitch.

For Barca and others, the fact Mata would be available on a free would be a big incentive – a player of proven quality such as him would be very pricey in today’s market.

Paris St-Germain consider £50 million bid for Watford star

French giants Paris St-Germain are considering making a bid for Watford’s £50 million-rated star Abdoulaye Doucoure this month – but may wait until the summer to make a move.

Midfielder Doucoure, 26, has been a star for Watford as they have continued to consolidate their status as Premier League regulars this season under manager Javi Gracia.

Doucoure has previously been the subject of interest from Arsenal, but they don’t have funds for transfers currently – only loan deals. That is no such problem for PSG and they are known to be looking to bolster their midfield ranks, especially with Adrien Rabiot out of favour and possibly heading out of the club.

However, Watford are in no hurry to sell and don’t have to and are confident of keeping Doucoure at Vicarage Road this month, according to the Evening Standard. The player has made no noises about wanting to leave either.

But if PSG were to return with a big-money offer in the summer, it could be more difficult for both club and player to resist.

Liverpool to challenge Bayern Munich to win signature of Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi – reports

Premier League title-chasers Liverpool have joined Bayern Munich the race to sign Chelsea’s highly-rated forward Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports.

German champions Bayern Munich have been on the trail of the 18-year-old for some time and have reportedly offered Chelsea £35 million for him. They have also tried to tempt Hudson-Odoi with the promise of being given the iconic number 10 shirt if he signed.

Now German newspaper SportBild has said that Liverpool are also interested in signing Hudson-Odoi and have met with him and his brother Bradley – who is his agent – this month. The Merseysiders have previous history in snapping up young Chelsea strikers, having signed Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster from the Blues in recent years.

However, Chelsea do not want to sell one of their most promising stars and have offered Hudson-Odoi a new contract said to be worth £70,000 per week. But Hudson-Odoi is frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities – he has only made three appearances in the Premier League this season and is behind Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro in the pecking order at Chelsea – and is thought to think that his development may be better served at another club.

Chelsea could be tempted to cash in, given that Hudson-Odoi’s contract is up in 2020, but if they did, they would try to insert a buy-back clause. If they were to sell, it is thought they would prefer to sell him to Bayern, rather than a Premier League rival.
